Take Root #12

Day 12

1 Peter3:8-12

8 To sum up, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, loving, compassionate, and humble; 9 not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the very purpose that you would inherit a blessing. 10 For, “The one who desires life, to love and see good days, Must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit. 11 He must turn away from evil and do good; He must seek peace and pursue it. 12 For the eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous, And His ears attend to their prayer, But the face of the Lord is against evildoers.”

There is an entire chapter in James about the tongue. It is condensed here in verse 10.

If you desire life... watch your mouth. So simple and to the point - yet so hard.

How easy it is to say something condescending about a brother…not that you don’t love him of course, but he really struggles with ____________.

Don’t we feel wise and righteous when we “lovingly” point out the flaws in others?

Fruit is a product of the tree … Words are a product of my heart – They reveal what is inside it.  If I find ways to slip in selfish, demeaning comments all in the guise of giving information, then there is a problem with the source.

If we camped out on this verse for the rest of the year – it would not be an overstatement of its importance.
